B-C Green Party Leader Sonia Furstenau wants the province to overhaul how health-care decisions are made.

Furstenau says the N-D-P government should start by reforming health-care leadership, bureaucracy, measurable patient outcomes and even how the province's health authorities spend their money.

Speaking in Langford -- where she was campaigning with the Green Party candidate for the upcoming provincial by-election -- Furstenau says the health system has been "hijacked by red tape and inefficiencies."

She says preventive care through community health centres is the key to keeping people healthy and out of hospitals -- and calls for a simpler system that makes patient care the top priority.
