VICTORIA — A 22-year-old man has been identified as the person who died after 11 people were attacked with a weapon at the offices of a First Nation in British Columbia's Interior.

The BC Coroners Service says David James of Lillooet  died at the Bridge River Indian Band offices on Wednesday morning.

The band's chief has said James stormed in and went from office to office hitting people with a weapon.

RCMP were called to the office of the band also known as Xwisten.

The coroners service says James was unresponsive at the scene and could not be resuscitated, prompting investigations by police, the coroner and the Independent Investigations Office.

The Interior Health authority has said two people were critically injured.
