New Westminster – The New Westminster Police Department’s Major Crime Unit have now secured charges against a male suspected in numerous bank robberies in the Lower Mainland.
Both New Westminster robberies occurred at financial institutions in the downtown core, the first occurring on May 13th, and the second occurred on May 17th. The NWPD Major Crime Unit took over these investigations and were quickly able to identify a suspect in with the assistance of the Coquitlam RCMP, who had already identified him on a similar offence in their jurisdiction.
The suspect was arrested later in the evening on May 17th by members of the Surrey RCMP and transported to NWPD cells for booking. Jordan Michael Cishecki, a 21 year old male of no fixed address has now been charged with three counts of robbery, relating to the two offences in New Westminster and an additional one in Coquitlam. Cishecki appeared in New Westminster Provincial Court on May 18th and his next appearance is May 25th.
The NWPD would like to take this opportunity to thank both the Coquitlam and Surrey RCMP detachments, whose assistance was vital to identifying and arresting the suspect in this investigation.
“Criminals don’t restrict themselves by municipal boundaries, and this is a great example of neighbouring police agencies working together to identify and arrest a subject wanted for multiple robberies,” stated Media Relations Officer Acting Sergeant Jeff Scott.
