An Indo-Canadian man is facing charges of aggravated assault on his wife in Canada, media reported.
Baldev Singh Kalsi, 66, president of the Brookside Sikh Gurudwara in Surrey city in western Canada's British Columbia province, was arrested after his wife was found in severe medical distress at their home Sunday, the Global News reported Monday.
Subsequently, Kalsi has been charged with one count of aggravated assault for incurring life threatening injuries to his wife.
The woman is currently fighting for her life and is on life support, authorities said.
Police received a call Sunday that a woman was in distress at a home in South Surrey.
When they arrived to the scene, they found the woman with life-threatening injuries.
The victim was transported to hospital by a British Columbia Air Ambulance.
Kalsi will appear before a Surrey court Wednesday.
Canada's Integrated Homicide Investigation team (IHIT) has taken over the investigation.
