Avian flu detected at Chilliwack farm

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 15 Nov, 2024 04:37 PM
  • Avian flu detected at Chilliwack farm

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says avian flu has been detected at another commercial poultry farm in Chilliwack.

It joins two other outbreaks discovered yesterday at poultry farms in Abbotsford, bringing the total number of infected premises in the province to 31.

B-C's poultry sector has been hit by avian flu outbreaks in recent years, leading to the culling of about 6.5 million birds in domestic flocks since spring of 2022.

The updated figures come a week after a B-C teenager was hospitalized in Canada's first human case of domestically acquired avian flu.
