Arthur Porter To Be Extradited To Canada From Panama To Face Charges

    MONTREAL — A Quebec police source has confirmed that the former head of the McGill University Health Centre will be extradited to Canada from Panama.
     
    Arthur Porter faces fraud-related charges in connection with an alleged bribery scandal related to a super hospital project in Montreal.
     
    The source tells The Canadian Press it is not known when exactly Porter will return to Canada.
     
    The source added that Porter can still decide to challenge the extradition order.
     
    Porter's wife Pamela Porter pleaded guilty last month to two counts of laundering the proceeds of crime and was sentenced to 33 months for her role in the scandal.
     
    A lawyer with the Quebec government's proceeds-of-crime unit said last month the court also seized about $5.5 million worth of assets related to her crimes.
