Arrest made in homicide: VPD

Police in Vancouver say they have made an arrest in the stabbing death of a 34-year-old man in the city's Downtown Eastside a year ago.

They say Stephen Crock was found on the sidewalk near East Hastings and Columbia suffering from stab wounds on November 21st, 2023.

Police say Crock was taken to the hospital, where he died from his injuries.

They say the B-C Prosecution Service has now approved a second-degree murder charge against the 23-year-old man, and he will remain in custody until his next court appearance.

The injunction granted on Saturday to the woman's common-law partner prevents Dr. Ellen Wiebe or any other medical professional from helping end the life of the 53-year-old Alberta woman within 30 days.

Drug-trafficking investigation leads to charges against 19 people in northern B.C.

Federal prosecutors have approved charges against 19 people, eight of them still at large, after an investigation into what police call a violent drug trafficking network in northeastern British Columbia. A statement from B.C.'s Combined Special Forces Enforcement Unit says two of the 11 people who were arrested remain in custody, while the others have been released with conditions as they move through the judicial process.
