Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 11 Jun, 2016 01:46 PM
  • Arrest Made, Arson Charges Pending Following Two Major Saanich, B.C, Fires
SAANICH, B.C. — Police say they have arrested a man suspected of setting two high-profile fires in suburban Victoria.

The first fire was in April inside a Saanich, B.C., hardware store during business hours.

Another blaze in May destroyed an under-construction townhouse complex and forced neighbours from their homes.

Investigators say they have spoken to witnesses, reviewed many hours of surveillance video and searched the scenes of both fires.

A 57-year-old man was arrested Wednesday and is facing two charges of arson.

Acting Sergeant Jereme Leslie with the Saanich Police says the fires caused a significant amount of damage and it is fortunate that no one was injured.
