Amber Alert over for Saskatchewan teen; girl found safe, but man dead in house

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 18 Feb, 2015 10:18 AM

LAC LA RONGE, Sask. — RCMP say a Saskatchewan teen who was the subject of an Amber Alert has been found safe, but they are still searching for the man believed to have abducted her and who is a suspect in a homicide investigation.

Sgt. Craig Cleary says Jonas Budd, 43, is the boyfriend of 17-year-old Kayla Natomagan's mother.

Police believe Budd fled on foot into the bush around Cranberry Portage in Manitoba where Mounties found the girl.

Cleary said officers responded to a report of a gunshot at the girl's home on the Lac La Ronge reserve shortly after 3 a.m. Wednesday. A man with a gunshot wound died at the scene, he said.

"We're working to determine the identity of the deceased male."

Police believed Kayla was "forcibly removed" from the home and launched a search for her.

Budd, who is known to police, is described as being about five-foot-nine-inches tall, weighing 170 pounds and with black hair and brown eyes.

Cleary said Budd has several tattoos, including images of a bear paw on his left forearm, an eagle head on his left calf and a ribbon with the name "Nicole" spelled out on his left shin. He also has images of feathers tattooed on his upper back.
