Amarpreet Samra, Wanted In Surrey Schoolyard Shooting Arrested, Shakiel Basra Still At Large

    SURREY, B.C. — One of two suspects wanted after a shooting near a Surrey, B.C., elementary school has been arrested.
     
    A 22-year-old man was injured when shots were fired near Strawberry Hill Elementary on Sept. 15, leading to charges against two men though no arrests were made until Thursday.
     
    Police say one of the suspects was taken into custody after he and another man initially escaped when an RCMP officer tried to pull over a red Ford Mustang near a golf course.

    Police say Amarpreet Samra was wanted on charges of attempting to commit murder and intentionally discharging a firearm in last month's shooting.
     
    Justice Minister Suzanne Anton lauded the arrest in a news release, saying it sends a strong message that there is no safe haven for criminals in B.C.
     
    Police are still looking for 21-year-old Shakiel Basra in connection with the September shooting.
