Alleged Thief David Griffiths Who Targeted Vancouver-Area Hospitals Arrested With Patient's Item

The Canadian Press, 16 Jun, 2015 02:04 PM
VANCOUVER — A man who allegedly targeted hospitals around the Vancouver area to steal staff identification and passes to restricted areas has been arrested.

Sgt. Randy Fincham says an officer was at Vancouver General Hospital to investigate a break-in when David Griffiths was taken into custody on June 2.

Fincham says 46-year-old Griffiths is charged in a break and enter two days earlier as well as for stealing a patient's property on the day he was arrested after being chased down by the officer.

Fincham says Griffiths also has warrants for 50 offences in Toronto, is currently out on bail and was with a 43-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man who were questioned and released.

Viola Kaminski of the Vancouver Coastal Health Authority says Griffiths is alleged to have been at about a dozen hospitals and other facilities operated by four health authorities in the Vancouver area.

Kaminski says the suspect is believed to have worked with a man and a woman and that the trio allegedly stole hospital-issued clothing and items such as phones and identification badges from nursing stations and sometimes posed as contractors.
