All Five Kwantlen Campuses Shut Down And Evacuated After 'Unsubstantiated' Threat

Darpan News Desk, 08 May, 2019 08:18 PM

Police are investigating an unsubstantiated threat to Kwantlen Polytechnic University. Out of an abundance of caution all 5 campuses in Surrey, Richmond and Langley are closed. Police have yet to locate evidence to substantiate a threat but are investigating.

All classes at all campuses have been cancelled for the rest of the day and buildings at all five campuses will remain closed.

It’s still unclear where the threats came from, but Cpl. Elenore Sturko says the information was first received Wednesday morning around 9:00 a.m.

The school said it sent out an email to all students and staff to alert them to the evacuation.

“Surrey RCMP have alerted us to an unsubstantiated threat against KPU, specific to today,” the school said, in the email.

“The threat is not specific to any one campus. Therefore, out of an abundance of caution and with the highest regard for the safety and security of our students and employees, KPU is evacuating all buildings immediately and closing all five of its campuses for the remainder of the day.”
