Alberta Woman Who Ordered Pitbulls To Attack Friend Sentenced To 4 Years In Jail

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 20 Mar, 2015 02:07 PM

CALGARY — A central Alberta woman who ordered her pitbulls to attack her friend during an argument has been sentenced to four years in prison.

Rita Phillip, who is 56, of Sundre was found guilty last June of aggravated assault and criminal criminal negligence causing bodily harm.

With credit for time already served, she has another 27 1/2 months left in her sentence.

Deanna Wolfe was found lying in a pool of blood and unconscious in Phillip's trailer in August 2012 and emergency responders thought she was dead.

The Crown had asked for seven years, while the defence wanted probation and time served, as well as a ban on owning dogs.

Wolfe said she's had 14 surgeries and still has to undergo nine more.
