EDMONTON — There were 55 flu-related deaths in Alberta between September and the end of March.
Alberta Health Services says all had lab-confirmed influenza at the time of their deaths, with 26 in the Calgary area, and 14 in Edmonton.
Overall, there were more than 48,000 lab-confirmed cases of influenza this season and over half of those involved the A strain of the virus.
More than 1.1-million people rolled up their sleeves for a flu shot this past season.
The department's flu immunization program has ended and will resume in the fall.
