Alberta MP cites family, long distance from home, for not seeking re-election

Darpan News Desk Canadian Press, 22 Aug, 2014 10:35 AM
A Conservative MP from northern Alberta has announced he will not be seeking re-election.

Brian Storseth, the member for Westlock-St. Paul, says in a letter to the editor published in The Morinville News community paper that he will fulfill his duties to the riding until the next election is held.

The 36-year-old politician says it's been incredibly difficult for him to be so far from his wife and young family for most of the year and has decided to pursue opportunities in Alberta.

He also says in his letter that repealing the long-gun registry, giving back marketing freedom to producers and reducing the GST to five per cent are just some of the things he's proud to have been a part of as a government MP.

Storseth, who studied political science at the universities of Alberta and Calgary, was first elected to the House of Commons in 2006.

He sits on the Standing Committee on Agriculture and Agri-Food and the Standing Committee on Environment and Sustainable Development. (The Morinville News)
