Alberta Lifts Restriction On Bars, Pubs; Now Every Hour Can Be Happy Hour

The Canadian Press, 03 Jun, 2016 01:08 PM
EDMONTON — Under new rules for Alberta's pubs and bars, every hour can now be happy hour.

The Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission says it has eliminated the 8 p.m. cut off time for so-called happy hours, when bars can offer drinks at reduced prices.

The commission says the change gives bars more flexibility in offering drink specials while reinforcing that everyone has a shared responsibility in keeping patrons and the public safe.

Alberta already has rules on the minimum price that must be charged for drinks and a limit on how much can be served to a customer after 1 a.m.

    Those rules remain in place.

Also, bar staff cannot serve customers who appear to be intoxicated.
