Alberta Lifts Restriction On Bars, Pubs; Now Every Hour Can Be Happy Hour

    EDMONTON — Under new rules for Alberta's pubs and bars, every hour can now be happy hour.
     
    The Alberta Gaming and Liquor Commission says it has eliminated the 8 p.m. cut off time for so-called happy hours, when bars can offer drinks at reduced prices.
     
    The commission says the change gives bars more flexibility in offering drink specials while reinforcing that everyone has a shared responsibility in keeping patrons and the public safe.
     
    Alberta already has rules on the minimum price that must be charged for drinks and a limit on how much can be served to a customer after 1 a.m.
     
    Those rules remain in place.
     
    Also, bar staff cannot serve customers who appear to be intoxicated.
