Abducted B.C. Kids' Facebook Photos Show Smiles But Mom Calls Them 'Propaganda'

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 13 May, 2016 12:45 PM
VANCOUVER — The mother of four abducted Vancouver Island siblings says photographs posted online of her children and their fugitive father in a park and bouncy castle could be a break in the case.

Alison Azer says she has spoken to RCMP about a new Facebook page apparently written by her ex-husband and dedicated to her children, though she considers it a cowardly act of propaganda.

A Canada-wide warrant remains in place for Saren Azer, a well-known Canadian doctor of Iranian descent, for alleged abduction in contravention of a custody order.

The father is believed to have taken the children to northern Iraq, in a region embroiled in ongoing conflict with Islamic State fighters.

The Facebook page includes an open letter purportedly written by Azer, in which he describes each child's condition and says everyone has found peace and is happy.

An RCMP spokeswoman would not comment on the active investigation, but says the file remains a priority.
