Abbotsford Police Warn Residents: Warmer Temperatures Bring Out Opportunistic Thieves

Darpan News Desk, 26 Jun, 2019 06:53 PM

Warmer weather means that windows and doors are often kept open to allow fresh cooler air into our homes. Unfortunately, this often brings out opportunistic thieves and we begin to notice an increase in break and enters at this time of the year.

The Abbotsford Police Department reminds citizens to get into the habit of practicing the “9pm Routine”, which includes:

    • Ensuring that garage doors are closed

    • Taking valuables out of vehicles and locking them up

    • Locking doors and windows before going to bed

    • Turn on alarms and exterior lights

Joining Block Watch and getting to know your neighbours are further ways to help prevent crime. Be part of the solution and support making your neighborhood a safer place to live and play. Call our Community Policing Office at (604) 864-4814 to find out how to become a Block Watch neighborhood.

To view where crime has occurred in your neighbourhood, check out the AbbyPD crime map, the Department’s interactive crime mapping tool, at https://www.abbypd.ca/crime-mapping.

Please be aware of strangers in your neighbourhood and report all suspicious activity, even minor incidents such as change stolen from a car overnight.
