Surrey RCMP is seeking for witnesses to assist in the investigation of an assault that took place in Newton, in December 2021.

At approximately 11:17 a.m., on December 15, 2021, a woman and her one-year-old child were assaulted by a man as they waited in to cross the street near 7474 120 Street. The man, who is unknown to both victims, allegedly uttered threats and then assaulted the mother and child. Bystanders held the man until police arrived and arrested him.

The mother and child did not sustain any serious physical injuries; however, they were both very emotionally distressed by the incident. The suspect was held in custody and a report has been submitted to the BC Prosecution Service.

There may be witnesses to this incident, who have not yet had the opportunity to provide a statement. Police are asking anyone with information to contact Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502.
