A driver was arrested after fleeing from a stolen truck last week

Darpan News Desk Vancouver Police, 11 Jun, 2020 09:47 PM
  • A driver was arrested after fleeing from a stolen truck last week

Officers on patrol one afternoon last week noticed a truck ahead of them with licence plates for a car – not a truck. They believed it might be stolen, and tried to pull over the vehicle at W. 6th Avenue and Ash. The driver took off and they followed, but when he began driving dangerously, the officers backed off.

After a description was broadcast over the police radio, police officers flooded the area, and the truck was spotted at numerous locations. The driver turned south onto Yukon from 10th Avenue and collided with a police car. He jumped out of the truck and fled east into a laneway.

A VPD canine unit gave chase, and took the man into custody at 12th and Yukon. The truck turned out to be stolen from 100 Mile House, and officers found several stolen licence plates inside.

The driver is facing possible charges of possession of stolen property, driving while prohibited, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, and two counts of breach of a conditional sentence order.
