A Different Type Of Rescue 'Tail' As Victoria Firefighters Unmask Aid For Pets

The Canadian Press Darpan, 15 Aug, 2014 02:27 PM
VICTORIA - Victoria firefighters are offering a breath of fresh air to man's best friend.

The Victoria Fire Department says its trucks are now equipped with life-saving devices designed specifically for pets.

The kits contain oxygen masks in three different sizes, perfect for reviving dogs, cats, rabbits, birds and even guinea pigs that may have been overcome by smoke from a house fire.

Victoria Fire Chief Paul Bruce says pets are very vulnerable during fires and the loss of an animal is always devastating, so crews are pleased to have the tools to revive a passed-out pooch.

Bruce says owners can also put a 'pet rescue alert' sticker on the door of their home or condo to alert firefighters to look for animals in the event of a fire.
