  • A 21-year old man has been sentenced to life in prison for a 2021 shooting in Burnaby.

A 21-year old man has been sentenced to life in jail for a 2021 day-time shooting in Burnaby.

In May of last year, at approximately 6:00 p.m., Burnaby RCMP received a report of a shooting in the 7700-block of 6thStreet, Burnaby. First responders arrived on scene and found 19-year old, Blerton Dalipi, suffering fatal gun shot injuries.

The suspect, later identified as 21-year old Ahmed Tahir, was quickly apprehended. A second victim, who had suffered non life-threatening injuries was later identified.

On May 9, 2021, the BC Prosecution Service (BCPS) laid a first degree murder charge against Tahir in relation to the homicide of Mr. Dalipi.

On June 1, 2022, Tahir entered a guilty plea and was subsequently convicted of second degree murder.

“Though incredibly young, both Blerton Dalipi and Ahmed Tahir were well known to police,” says Sergeant Timothy Pierotti of IHIT. “We’re happy with the outcome of this investigation.”

On September 9, 2022, Tahir was sentenced to life in jail, without eligibility for parole for 17 years.
