79 Motorists Nabbed In 3-day CounterAttack Blitz Targeting Impaired Drivers In Vancouver

Darpan News Desk , 25 Jul, 2019 06:23 PM

Vancouver Police are revving up enforcement against impaired drivers, and remind all motorists to think ahead and plan a safe ride home.

More than 350 drivers received roadside drug and alcohol tests during a three-day CounterAttack blitz last weekend, resulting in 44 license suspensions and 35 vehicle impoundments for alcohol and drug impairment.

CounterAttack road blocks will continue throughout the summer, and police remind drivers they could be stopped at any time, in any place.

“There is no excuse to drive drunk or stoned. If you try to get away with it, chances are you’ll get caught,” says Constable Steve Addison, VPD. “Make a plan to get home safely, and if you’re planning to drink or consume marijuana, leave the keys at home.”

CounterAttack road blocks are a partnership between VPD and the Insurance Corporation of B.C., with a mandate to promote safe driving and take impaired motorists off the road. Impaired driving remains one of the leading causes of traffic fatalities in B.C., and it is entirely preventable.

“We encourage people to go out, have fun, and enjoy everything this amazing city has to offer,” says Constable Addison. “But if your plans involve alcohol or drugs, arrange for a designated driver, call a cab, or jump on transit.”

Anyone who suspects an impaired driver should call 9-1-1- immediately.
