7 Stranded Hikers Rescued Near Vancouver's Cypress Mountain

The Canadian Press, 10 Jan, 2016 12:25 PM
A North Shore Rescue team led seven hikers to safety Saturday night after they became stranded on St. Mark’s Summit near the Cypress Mountain ski area.

Team Leader Mike Danks said his team was deployed after the hikers lost sight of the trail, and had everyone off the mountain by midnight.

One of the hikers was a man with diabetes who was reported to be in medical distress.

The seven hikers, all in their mid-20s, were all out of the woods at about midnight.

Search manager Simon Jackson said the group had only one flashlight, lacked appropriate footwear for the icy conditions, and would not have been able to build a fire, had they had been forced to survive the night.

Jackson said this was NSR's first significant call of 2016, with 18 volunteers taking part in the rescue.
