7 Skiers Hurt In Golden, B.C. Avalanche Were On Self-Guided Trip: Industry Group

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 22 Feb, 2016 01:40 PM
GOLDEN, B.C. — Seven skiers injured in an avalanche is southeastern British Columbia were on a self-guided trip when they were caught in the snow slide.

The Backcountry Lodges of B.C. Association says the experienced skiers were on a slope Sunday close to Sunrise Lodge when the avalanche was triggered close to the treeline.

The association says the injured were flown to hospital and two were in serious condition.

The avalanche northeast of Golden happened the day after a 30-year-old Calgary man was killed and a Winnipeg man was taken to hospital when a slide hit four snowmobile riders in the same region.

Avalanche Canada issued a special warning Friday for the area about the possibility of "very large and dangerous avalanches."

The warning recommended that backcountry users avoid large slopes above and at the treeline.
