59-year-old Ajastar Singh facing teen sexual assault charges

Surrey RCMP is advising the public that a man has now been charged in connection with a sexual assault investigation which began in May of last year.

On May 4 of last year Surrey RCMP responded to a report of a sexual assault. On July 2nd, 59-year-old Ajastar Singh was charged with sexual assault and sexual interference of a person under the age of 16 years.

On July 4th, Ajastar Singh was arrested for the two offences and appeared in court.

He was released pending a future court date with multiple conditions, some of which include:

not attending at public areas where children under the age of 16 would likely be present;
and not engaging in employment or volunteer work that involves working with children under the age of 16.

Four children under the age of 10 who had streptococcal infections have died since mid-December, in what the BC Centre for Disease Control says is part of a surge in such infections.
