5 Related Overdoses In Barrie, Ont., Prompt Police Warning To Recreational Users

Darpan News Desk, 04 Oct, 2016 12:48 PM
BARRIE, Ont. — Police in Barrie, Ont., are warning recreational drug users after five related overdoses early Sunday morning.

Investigators say they got the first call just after midnight and found a 25-year-old Orillia, Ont., man in apparent medical distress with laboured breathing.

A 26-year-old from Toronto then collapsed on a road in the same area, and a third man, a 26-year-old from Barrie, collapsed a few moments later.

A half hour later a 22-year-old woman from Barrie collapsed and went unresponsive and while officers were investigating that incident, they learned a 29-year-old man from Barrie had been taken to hospital by paramedics.

Investigators say the five people had attended a party together on Saturday night and they believe they has used cocaine laced with unknown opiate — possibly fentanyl — and consumed alcohol.

Police say all five had stopped breathing while being taken to hospital, but are now in stable condition.
