On June 15th and 16th, Burnaby RCMP’s Community Response Team (CRT) and Bike Unit, along with Metrotown Security and several Loss Prevention Officers, conducted another Boost and Bust operation at Metrotown.

The goal of the Boost and Bust initiative is to combat shoplifting, as well as strengthen partnerships within the community.

The results of the two-day initiative are as follows:

  • 37 police files generated
  • 45 individuals arrested
  • $5,000 of property recovered

Some of the most commonly targeted items for shoplifters during the latest Boost and Bust included clothing and sunglasses.

“Burnaby RCMP has conducted five Boost and Bust operations since 2021.” said Corporal Mike Kalanj with Burnaby RCMP. “This initiative has resulted in the arrest of 198 individuals and the recovery of over $30,000 worth of stolen merchandise. We’d like to thank our partners, including Metrotown Security, for their ongoing participation in this initiative.”

In one instance, officers taking part in the Boost and Bust were also able to assist in quickly reuniting a missing child with her mother.
