32 year RCMP officer, Cst. Harvinder Singh Dhami killed in overnight crash

A fatal motor vehicle accident claimed the life of 32 year old Cst. Harvinder Singh Dhami, a member of Strathcona County RCMP in Alberta. 

It took place on Monday at 2:00 a.m. on Township Road 540.

Despite efforts of emergency responders and the civilians present, Cst. Harvinder Singh Dhami succumbed to his injuries. This tragic incident is still under investigation, more information may be provided when available.

Alberta Premier Danielle Smith offered her condolances to Dhami's family and friends.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau took to Twitter and expressed his sadness over Dhami's tragic death

On Monday afternoon, a makeshift memorial that included flowers had emerged outside the Strathcona RCMP detachment.

Cst. Dhami joined the RCMP in 2019 and was posted to Strathcona Municipal detachment. Cst. Dhami was known to be a team member who was compassionate, caring and very community oriented.

"Losing a member of our police service and a member of the community is incredibly difficult," said Deputy Commissioner Curtis Zablocki, Commanding Officer of the Alberta RCMP. "We are very appreciative of the support that has been extended to the family, our staff and the community."

Dhami leaves behind a wife. 

The community's thoughts are with his friends and family.
