3 arrested in drug seizure in Prince Rupert

Police in Prince Rupert say three people have been arrested in a series of searches that turned up a significant amount of illicit drugs in the city.

Mounties say police executed multiple search warrants on September 6th on homes on Second Avenue West and Ninth Avenue East, as well as a vessel tied up at Atlin Terminal.

The searches yielded 3.5 kilograms of cocaine, as well as more than 23-thousand-dollars in cash, prescription pills, multiple firearms and ammunition.

Police say the individuals arrested have been released pending additional investigation.

One person is dead and another has been airlifted to hospital following a crash on Highway 1 in British Columbia. Sgt. Joe Leeson with Langley RCMP says officers were called around 9:40 p.m. Friday night after a tow truck hit the rear of a tractor-trailer unit in the eastbound lanes of Highway 1. Leeson says the tow-truck driver died at the scene.

The company operating British Columbia's ferries says divers have recovered a propeller that fell off one of its vessels and triggered an oil spill earlier this week, but notes it will take six months to complete the needed repairs.
