  • 2 new mass-timber courses to start at BCIT

Two new mass-timber courses are slated to begin in the fall at the British Columbia Institute of Technology.

In addition, the province is providing 3.3-million-dollars to the school for the creation of a mass-timber training hub at B-C-I-T's Burnaby campus.

The provincial government says once the hub is completed, all mass-timber training courses will be housed there.

Trade Minister Jagrup Brar says partnering with B-C-I-T will help ensure B-C has enough workers with the right skills to construct buildings of the future with mass timber.

Supporting mass-timber construction brings the Province closer to its goal of building a more sustainable, inclusive and innovative economy for people, businesses and communities throughout B.C.

Witnesses called 9-1-1 reporting shots fired near East Hastings and Columbia just before 4:30 p.m. VPD flooded the area and located a victim with gunshot wounds, while several people were seen fleeing the area on foot. Eight people were arrested and have since been released pending further investigation.
