2 dozen tires slashed in Nanaimo

A man has been arrested in connection to dozens of tires being slashed overnight in two Nanaimo parking lots.

R-C-M-P say officers located 20 vehicles with their tires slashed in a parking lot in the 200 block of Franklyn Street, while another three vehicles with slashed tires were found a short time later in the 300 block of Selby Street.

Mounties say surveillance video showed a man walking from vehicle to vehicle, slashing tires and then driving away.

Police say they were able to identify the getaway vehicle, resulting in the registered owner being confirmed as the suspect in the video and being arrested.

Dominique Lamothe said the trucking firm she works for will be in trouble once new rules for high-wage temporary foreign workers take effect on Friday. The BC Maritime Employers Association has released the details of its final offer to the union representing more than 700 foremen ahead of a looming lockout on Monday. The offer, which is dated Wednesday and addressed to International Longshore and Warehouse Union Local 514 President Frank Morena, was released publicly on Saturday.
