17 B.C. Police Officers Investigated For Dozens Of Misconduct Allegations

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 18 Feb, 2015 11:44 AM
ABBOTSFORD, B.C. — Seventeen police officers in Abbotsford, B.C., are being investigated for misconduct.

The Office of the Police Complaint Commissioner says 148 allegations against members of the Abbotsford Police Department include corrupt practice, deceit and neglect of duty.

The office says the investigation relates to statements that police officers gave to judicial officers around permission for search warrants.

It says it has concerns about the extent to which the search warrants in question have contributed to potentially unsafe prosecutions.

The office notes the investigation is complicated, and several investigations have been suspended during the collection of a huge volume of investigative materials and due to some legal impediments.

The Police Act investigation stems from a Vancouver Police Department investigation into the conduct of Abbotsford Const. Chris Nicholson, who was charged with several criminal offences in May 2013.
