12-Year-Old Boy Shot With Pellet Gun While Sledding In Cloverdale Park: Surrey RCMP

Darpan News Desk, 06 Feb, 2019 08:28 PM

Surrey RCMP is investigating an incident of a child being shot by a pellet at Hillcrest Park in Cloverdale.

Shortly before 6:00 pm, Surrey RCMP received a report that a 12-year-old boy, had been shot with a BB or pellet as he was out sledding. The boy received minor injuries to his face and neck during the incident.

The 12-year-old was able to return home and police were notified.

Police quickly attended the area along with the Integrated Police Service Dog and conducted patrols and attempted to track the suspects from where they were last seen.

At this time, investigators believe that two males, who may also be youths, purposefully discharged their pellet guns at the 12-year-old and then fled the area.

One of the suspects was wearing a black jacket, black toque and a camouflage face mask. The second suspect was wearing grey pants and a black hat. Both suspects were allegedly carrying assault-style looking pellet rifles.

It is important for adults and youth alike to understand that not only is discharging an air rifle in a park in violation of City bylaws, assaulting another person with one of these firearms is also a crime, Inspector Warren Tyson, Acting Operations Officer Many people may not realize that these types of rifles are not toys and may cause serious and life altering injuries.

Police are asking anyone information about this incident to call Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502, or contact Crime Stoppers if you wish to remain anonymous, at 1-800-222-8477 or www.solvecrime.ca.
