MACKENZIE, B.C. - British Columbia's criminal justice branch says no charge will be laid in connection with the death of a 12-year-old girl who was killed in a car crash involving an 11-year-old driver.
Sheraya (SHER'-ay-ah) Quam was camping near Mackenzie in central B.C. in May 2013 when she got into a Jeep with another girl and a 41-year-old man.
Mounties said the man was sitting in the back seat and the children were at the front as the 11-year-old girl drove down a forest service road.
She lost control of the vehicle and it flipped over.
Quam died at the scene, and her mother, Sherri Quam, says she has now been told that no charge will be laid in the case.
Crown spokesman Neil MacKenzie says prosecutors considered charging the man with criminal negligence, but decided against that because the available evidence was not likely to lead to a conviction. (CKPG)
