1,000 Syrian Refugees Expected To Arrive In B.C. Before The New Year

The Canadian Press, 06 Sep, 2016 12:23 PM
KAMLOOPS, B.C. — The next wave of Syrian refugees will soon begin to arrive in British Columbia and Jobs Minister Shirley Bond is optimistic things will go more smoothly than when about 2000 refugees were welcomed earlier this year.

Bond says about 1,000 refugees are slated to arrive between now and December.

She says exact numbers are still being worked out.

She also says the provincial government supports the idea that some of B.C.'s newest families should settle in the Vancouver area, while the rest should start their new lives in communities outside the Lower Mainland.

Bond says lessons have been learned to ensure British Columbia is more prepared to accept the refugees.
