10 Child Sex Charges Laid Against Man In B.C.; Police Say More Victims Possible

The Canadian Press, 04 Apr, 2019 05:41 PM

NEW WESTMINSTER, B.C. — A 33-year-old man has been charged with 10 counts of sexually assaulting children at three locations in British Columbia.

New Westminster police say Wesley Clarkson is charged with five counts of sexual assault and five counts of touching for a sexual purpose, involving a person under the age of 16.

Sgt. Jeff Scott says all the victims are girls who were younger than 10 when the assaults are alleged to have occurred as much as 11 years ago.

He says detectives also believe there could be more victims who have not yet come forward.

Court documents show six offences are alleged to have occurred in New Westminster in 2008 and 2009, while four charges relate to incidents in the southern Okanagan region, including two in Penticton in January 2010 and two in nearby Naramata in September of that year.

Scott says Clarkson remains in custody awaiting his next court date on April 10.

"Mr. Clarkson has been convicted of similar offences in the past in Ontario," Scott says in a news release.

He says New Westminster Police major crime detectives are interested in speaking with anyone with more information.
