Surrey is the park destination of summer

Darpan News Desk, 10 Aug, 2016 02:11 PM
One of the perks of living in British Columbia is that adventure is always waiting right outside your doorstep. British Columbians fill their summers with jam-packed weekend adventures including barbeques, picnics and the great outdoors. The “must-be” destination of Summer 2016 is Surrey – offering the most parks per capita than anywhere else in the province. Because of the sheer volume of available parks in the Surrey city limits, you won’t need to elbow your neighbour out of your plot under the tree, there’s more than enough space for every park dweller.

Popular Surrey parks include Redwood Park, Tynehead Park, Blackie Split Park and Mud Bay Park, all perfect for family outings and filled with adventure and activities for people of all ages.

    Top Surrey Park Activities:

    Sports in the Park

Why not bring a Frisbee or football to the park? Surrey has a variety of parks that will give you plenty of space to have a kick around with your friends. If you are more of an observer of sport, you can head down to Softball City on September 3 and 4 to checkout the Pacific Cup International Softball Tournament. This event now in its 37th year will feature high-end slo-pitch which will be sure to please the crowd.
Another exciting sporting event to take-in this September is the annual SX International Cup – British Columbia’s largest soccer tournament spanning two cities, four venues, with over 400 teams participating.

    Picnics in the Park

Summer is the perfect time to enjoy the outdoors, and what better way to spend time with your loved ones then by enjoying a picnic together. Surrey’s parks offer beautiful picturesque settings for outdoor eating, with many offering barbeque pits and picnic tables for your convenience. If you rather someone else did the cooking, make sure to head down to Holland Park on August 11 from 4 PM to 7:30 PM to experience Picnic en Rouge.

    Music in the Park

Parks are a perfect place to bring your guitar and have a jam with your friends or even bring your speaker for a day of relaxing while listening to your favourite songs. Surrey’s parks are also a host to many festivals and concerts, including the Sounds Of Summer Music Series which runs from July 6 until August 31.

    Family Days in the Park

Surrey parks are a great place for all the family, with playgrounds to entertain the little ones on your perfect family day out. The highlight of the summer for many families is Movies Under The Stars in Holland Park every Saturday evening in August.

Along with the four animated movies, each night will also feature entertainment from local performers. Everyone can also get involved with the activities and games that will be set up each night as well as play in the playground located on the Southside of the park. This event is free for all to attend and enjoy.

With so many parks just a hop, skip and jump away from home, there’s no excuse to not get out and enjoy the great outdoors this summer with your friends and family. Just don’t forget to bring some sunscreen along when you’re at your favourite park this summer.
