Review: The Sound Of Music

Petrina D'Souza, 19 Sep, 2017 12:25 PM
The Vancouver premiere of The Sound Of Music at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre, was a huge success. The beautiful musical took me back to my school days and made me reminisce those carefree, beautiful moments. I grew up listening to and singing The Sound Of Music classic hits like “My Favorite Things,” “Maria,” and “The Sound of Music,” and “Sixteen Going on Seventeen.” Watching the production and the songs come alive on stage was simply a treat.

The beloved musical story of Maria and the von Trapp Family is produced by NETworks Presentations, and features music by Richard Rodgers, lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, book by Howard Lindsay and Russel Crouse, suggested by The Trapp Family Singers by Maria Augusta Trapp.

With a star cast that was on point, perfect music and sound elements, and an incredible stage set-up, The Sound Of Music musical was bound to be a great hit. Attendees were thrilled listening to the musical hits and were seen singing along their favourite numbers. I especially loved the lively staging and realistic set décor that gave the notion that you were somewhere up in the mountains of Austria itself. A special thank you and salute to the orchestra for adding drama and life to the songs.

THE SOUND OF MUSIC is part of the Broadway Across Canada 17/18 Broadway Season and will run in Edmonton September 19 - 24 at the Northern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium and Calgary September 26 – October 1 at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium.
