  • Review: Goh Ballet’s The Nutcracker
I recently watched The Nutcracker - Goh Ballet’s traditional rendition of a classical masterpiece. Being my first-ever ballet experience, I wasn’t sure what to expect of this performance. All I knew was that the story of The Nutcracker would be depicted through the dance form. Once the magical show was over, all I could think of was ‘I’m glad my first ballet show was The Nutcracker.’
 
Goh Ballet’s The Nutcracker returned for its eighth year with lots of holiday excitement and graceful performances. Members of the Vancouver Opera Orchestra provided live musical accompaniment of Tchaikovsky’s world-renowned Nutcracker Suite. Right from the beginning of the act till the very end, the story, ballet, ballerinas, vibrancy, costumes and the music were to the point – adding more colour and joy with each ballet presentation. 
 
I thoroughly enjoyed the ballet acts in pairs and the beautiful showcase of the Kingdom of Sweets in Act Two. A ballet show, I believe, requires a lot of practice, imagination, patience and elegancy. The Nutcracker, comprising of a large group of dancers (kids, youth and adults), has managed to put in all the beautiful elements together to not only make it a successful show but also ignite among the audience the festive spirit. The Nutcracker makes you dream of a delightful Christmas filled with happiness and laughter. 
 
Do watch The Nutcracker; it will definitely add to your Christmassy mood. It’s a family entertainer you cannot miss. For those watching ballet for the first time, reading up on the story beforehand will definitely help you follow and enjoy the performances better.
