  • Rakhi for Safety: Standing Together Against Gender Violence

Shelter Movers is proud to announce the launch of its new social media campaign, "Rakhi for Safety," aimed at raising awareness and promoting allyship and active participation in the fight against gender-based violence (GBV). This campaign leverages the cultural significance of the Rakhi festival, which symbolizes protection and care, to foster a spirit of solidarity and commitment to protecting and empowering individuals affected by GBV. This year's theme is "Standing Together Against Gender Violence".

Raksha Bandhan, observed on August 19th, is a beautiful festival that celebrates the bond between brothers and sisters. On this day, sisters tie a Rakhi (a sacred thread) around their brothers' wrists as a symbol of love, protection, and care. In return, brothers promise to protect their sisters throughout their lives.

"We are excited to launch the 'Rakhi  for Safety' campaign during such a culturally significant time. The Rakhi festival is a perfect symbol of protection and care, and we hope to channel its spirit to support and empower those affected by gender-based violence. Together, we can make a difference and stand against GBV, said Jessie Kaur Lehail, Chapter Director of Shelter Movers.”

The main objective of the campaign is to raise awareness by educating the public about the prevalence and impact of gender-based violence. It will also look at the recruitment of volunteers and encourage community members to volunteer their time and skills to support Shelter Movers' mission. The campaign's focus is to also boost donations by increasing financial contributions to sustain and expand Shelter Movers's services.

The campaign's theme underscores the collective responsibility to combat GBV and support survivors. By associating the Rakhi festival with the cause, Shelter Movers aims to inspire individuals to take a stand and actively participate in creating a safer environment for everyone.
