Once again, high seasonal temperatures and dry weather have resulted in an increase in brush potential throughout the City Of Surrey.
Between May 1 and July 7 this year, the Surrey Fire Service has responded to 144 brush and grass fires. The majority of these fires in the City of Surrey are caused by carelessly discarded cigarettes.
A reminder that open burning and backyard fires are not allowed in the City of Surrey. Anyone who is open burning may be subjected to cost recovery for Fire Service attendance. Normally permitted burning on agricultural land is banned between May 1 and October 1 yearly.
Charcoal barbeques are prohibited in City Parks and on City Beaches. Propane fueled barbeques and cooking appliances are allowed on City Property. The City of Surrey wants everyone to have a safe summer and enjoy our parks and beaches.
Here are some simple steps to follow:
• Dispose of smoking materials properly
• Do not leave barbeques or any cooking appliance unattended
• Properly dispose of bottles and broken glass
• Talk to your kids regarding the dangers of playing with fire
