Fall is upon us. Make the most of the season by checking out these fun, free things to do around Vancouver!

Crisp air, stunning foliage, longer nights....there’s a lot to love about fall in Vancouver. For most Vancouverites, the season is all about Thanksgiving, Halloween and local festivals. If you’re looking for some fun without the price tag, here’s a list of the top free things to do around Vancouver – perfect for the entire family.

Celebrate Diwali Downtown in Surrey and Vancouver

Check out Diwali Downtown Surrey at Surrey City Hall on October 21 between 2 pm to 5 pm. This free celebration, as part of Diwali Fest, has over 15 unique dance and music performances. And not to mention, an Indian-style baazar.  You can also check out the Vancouver version of this free event that takes place on October 27 between 3 pm to 7 pm at Roundhouse Community Centre in Yaletown. Enjoy live performances, check out the exhibits and head to the Rangoli room to help create a room-sized mosaic!

    Go on a Fall Hike

Experience fall in all its colourful glory by hitting the trails. For an easy hike, check out Lighthouse Park in West Vancouver. The elevation is minimal and the hike takes around two hours to complete. Or hit up Burnaby Mountain for more of a workout. Commonly known as Burnaby’s version of the Grind, this intermediate 3 km hike takes an hour to complete and has over 500 wooden stairs.

    Attend the Pumpkin Fest

Go celebrate the harvest season at West Vancouver Community Centre on September 30 between 10 am – 3 pm. There’s a lot here for the entire family. Check out the pumpkin patch and participate in some old fashioned games like Scarecrow Scramble and a scavenger hunt. Or you can visit some cute farm animals at the farm zone and check out the interactive Lego wonderland. Not to mention, a dunk tank and photo booth to really top off the experience!

    Celebrate World Rivers Day

Free family-friendly fun anyone? Head to the historical Burnaby Village Museum on September 23 between 11 am – 4.30 pm and celebrate our rivers and waterways. Children will enjoy craftwork and live entertainment such as interactive story telling, a ventriloquist act, live music, and more. Plus, there will also be a lot of displays, tours and crafts for the whole family to enjoy.

    Check out the Cranberry Festival

Head down to Fort Langley on October 6 between 10 am – 4 pm and check out the annual Cranberry Festival. On this day, admission is free for all. Walk through the vendors, enjoy live music and entertainment, and watch fun, historic demonstrations such as ‘cranberry stomp’ and barrel-making. It’s also a great chance to explore the fort and stroll around the historic town.
