On the evening of March 22, 2024, the Vancouver Convention Centre transformed into a hub of inspiration and empowerment for DARPAN Magazine's second annual Women of Influence Gala. Set against the picturesque backdrop of Vancouver's waterfront and mountains, the event commenced with a vibrant red carpet-reception that encapsulated the spirit of celebration and recognition of powerful women.

A flurry of camera flashes and live media interviews greeted attendees. The atmosphere was charged with anticipation and the collective energy of guests, including political dignitaries, socialites, and business leaders from the South Asian community. Esteemed guests like the Lieutenant Governor of BC, Janet Austin, and the Premier of British Columbia, David Eby, were among the luminaries who added prestige to the evening.

Canadian actor Huse Madhavji, the night's charismatic Master of Ceremonies, seamlessly introduced the event's segments, starting with a mesmerizing performance by Pakistani Canadian singer Meesha Shafi.

The highlight of the evening was the series of Darpan PowerTalks, featuring influential women who shared their insights and experiences.

Pollster, analyst and public speaker Shachi Kurl emphasized women taking up space and voicing their opinions in public discourse and decision-making processes, inspiring women to embrace their power and agency in advocating for issues that matter to them, encouraging them to speak up and effect meaningful change. At the same time, the UK Consul General in Toronto, Fouzia Younis, advocated for dreaming big and pursuing ambitious goals, regardless of one's background or circumstances, discussing the importance of resilience and perseverance in overcoming obstacles and defying expectations.

Actress Lisa Ray inspired the audience with her journey through surrogacy and advocated for alternative fertility paths. Juggy Sihota, Chief Growth Officer at Telus Health, shared her initiatives for fostering gender equity in the workplace. Dr. Shohini Ghose illuminated the path for women in STEM, emphasizing the need for systemic change to promote inclusivity.

The panel discussion, moderated by Neetu Garcha of Global National, was a dynamic exchange of ideas about empowering women in the workplace and broader society. The panellists engaged in a robust conversation, providing practical advice and sharing their challenges and triumphs. They discussed the importance of supporting one another, challenging outdated perceptions, and the role of men in fostering gender equality.

The messages of empowerment and celebrating women's achievements were punctuated by a sumptuous dinner and energetic entertainment featuring Meesha Shafi. The event not only provided a platform for dialogue but also an ambience that encouraged networking and camaraderie among the attendees.

The gala underscored these organizations' commitment to supporting women's advancement, with RBC as the Presenting Sponsor and Cadillac and Excel Career College as the Powered-by Sponsors. The event's success was a testament to the community's enthusiasm for recognizing and empowering women across various fields.

As the night concluded, the sense of empowerment was palpable. Attendees left inspired, armed with new insights and motivated to effect change in their communities. The DARPAN Power Women of Influence Gala was more than an event; it was a powerful movement towards a more inclusive and equitable society.

Founders Gurvinder Hundal and Ramneek Dhillon of Darpan Magazine expressed their gratitude for the overwhelming support and success of the gala, reaffirming their commitment to celebrating women's achievements and fostering an environment where every woman can thrive.

As the community looks forward to future events, the impact of the Women of Influence Gala continues to resonate, inspiring all to champion the cause of gender equality and empowerment.
