Vaisakhi Celebrations, Vancouver

The DARPAN Magazine team participated in the vibrant Vaisakhi celebrations on two consecutive Saturdays. On April 13th, 2024, we attended the Vancouver Vaisakhi parade, which commenced at the Ross Street Gurdwara and followed along Main Street. This parade brought together thousands of people from various backgrounds, showcasing Vancouver's multicultural mosaic.

Vaisakhi Celebrations, Surrey

The following Saturday, April 20th, saw us in Surrey, where an impressive crowd of 550,000 people gathered to celebrate. It was a wonderful experience to see such a massive turnout, reflecting the area's strong community bonds and cultural richness. It was great to meet and interact with so many people during these events, and we are excited to share some pictures from both venues, offering a glimpse into these colourful celebrations.

Break Free From Your Mental Prison Embracing the Wisdom of Bandi Chorh Divas
Bandi Chorh Divas, also known as Diwali for Sikhs, is a significant Sikh festival celebrated to honor Guru Hargobind Ji's release from imprisonment. In 1619, Guru Hargobind Ji refused to leave Gwalior Fort without the release of 52 Rajput kings who were unjustly imprisoned there. He negotiated their release, emphasizing the importance of standing up for the oppressed. This event signifies the triumph of righteousness over tyranny and the importance of freedom and justice.

From career choices to personal relationships, from clothing choices to marriage decisions, this question often looms large. It's a double-edged sword - on one hand, it can foster a sense of belonging and community, but on the other, it can stifle individuality and personal growth.
