Be ready to be hypnotized by KURIOS – Cabinet of Curiosities

Darpan News Desk, 21 Oct, 2017 02:15 PM
This is my third year watching a show put forth by Cirque du Soleil and each year it just get better and fascinating that the last. Cirque du Soleil returned to Vancouver with its most acclaimed touring show, KURIOS – Cabinet of Curiosities, which  premiered under the iconic blue-and-yellow Big Top at Concord Pacific Place on October 19, 2017.

Written and directed by Michel Laprise, KURIOS is a tale in which time comes to a complete stop, transporting the audience inside a fantasy world where everything is possible. In an alternate yet familiar past, in a place where wonders abound for those who trust their imagination, a Seeker discovers that in order to glimpse the marvels that lie just below the surface, we must first learn to close our eyes.

Having watched Kooza in 2015, I felt that Kurios shared some similarities with the former. Both showcased a world full of surprises, wonder and thrills and had a few similar acrobatic acts. Yet, the presentation, props and characters were distinct and beyond one’s imagination. While watching the show, a thought came to my mind – only a genius with a curious, creative imagination could come up with a show that is as hypnotizing and vibrant as Kurious. Hats off to Michel Laprise for giving Vancouverites a sneak peek into his fascinating mind and putting together such a successful show.

There are numerous acts in Kurios that are nerve-wrecking and deserve a standing ovation. Two of my favourites include the juggler performing with juggling pins, and acrobats on the flying trapeze. Each performance is riskier and bolder than the previous, so much so that you are terrified yet amazed till the end.

Kurious is playing at Concord Pacific Place till December 31, 2017. Tickets are available for purchase to the general public by visiting cirquedusoleil.com/kurios or calling 1-877-924-7783.
