Victims In Vincent Cheung's Metro Vancouver Attacks Include 85-Year-Old Living In Fear: Crown

Darpan News Desk, 22 Jul, 2016 12:47 PM
VANCOUVER — The Crown says a series of firebombings and targeted shootings aimed at people with some connection to the B.C. Justice Institute has left the victims traumatized.

Joe Bellows read nine victim impact statements in court at a sentencing hearing for Vincent Cheung, who pleaded guilty yesterday to 18 of 23 charges stemming from the attacks in 2011 and 2012.

Bellow says an 85-year-old arson victim says her "remaining years will be lived in continuous fear as a result of this crime."

Fifteen families were targeted, including a corrections officer and members of a church group, all because they parked their vehicles at the justice institute, which offers training for public safety employees in the province.

Cheung admitted to the attacks that occurred in nine municipalities around Metro Vancouver and included a firebombing on the home of a former West Vancouver police chief.

B.C. Supreme Court has already heard that the Crown and defence will jointly ask for a prison sentence in the range of 10 to 15 years.
