Two Canadians Dead After Drowning On Vacation In Mexico

Darpan News Desk The Canadian Press, 18 Mar, 2016 01:58 PM
TIMMINS, Ont. — Two Canadians have drowned while on vacation in Mexico.

A spokesman with a school board in northern Ontario confirmed the deaths of the couple, who were current and former staff members at a Timmins, Ont., high school.

Bob Brush says 54-year-old Sue Drummond, who was head of student services at the school, and 65-year-old retired teacher Steve Eley both drowned this week.

He says the pair were vacationing in the resort town of Tulum, about 130 kilometres south of Cancun.

Brush, who is vice-chair with the District School Board Ontario North East, says grief counsellors will be at the school where the couple worked to help students and staff deal with the news.

Steps are being taken to bring the couple's bodies back to Canada.

A spokeswoman with Global Affairs says Canadian consular officials are in contact with local authorities and are ready to provide assistance.
