Media Mogul Ted Turner was hospitalised in Argentina's capital Buenos Aires Saturday for an appendicitis operation.

Turner was on a visit to his holiday ranch in the Patagonia region when he was admitted to a local clinic Saturday, CNN reported.

The 75-year-old was diagnosed with appendicitis and doctors recommended that he undergo surgery.

Turner was later flown to Buenos Aires for the operation.

His spokesman Phillip Evans said in a statement that Turner was admitted to a hospital for observation while traveling in South America. Citing company policy on personal health issues, he declined to comment further.

Turner founded CNN, the 24-hour cable news channel, in 1980.

He owns 14 ranches in the US and three in Argentina.
